THANK YOU DENNIS BRODSKY

Please be advised that as of December 16, 2016 Dennis Brodsky has resigned from the Board of Directors to pursue a new career.
We wish to thank Dennis for his years of service and wish him well in his new endeavors.
Sonya Goll has been appointed by the Board to replace Dennis as Secretary. Big shoes to fill!
Brett Borders who was the next highest vote getter in the last election of Directors will fill Dennis's position until the 2017 fall election.

CBA CHARITABLE GIVING

The CBA membership provided suggestions for the CBA's annual donations to local charities. The following each received a donation of $1000:

  • Almost Home Animal Shelter
  • Blessings in a Backpack - Michigan
  • Grace Centers of Hope
  • Southeast Michigan Adult Rehabilitation Center
  • Stiggys Dogs
  • The Detroit Pit Crew
  • Pope John Hospitality House
  • Alternatives for Girls
  • Detroit Rescue Mission
  • Sisters Acquiring Financial Empowerment
A $2,000 donation was made to the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, Helping Hands Fund, in the name of Brenda Gehringer-Grima, long-time bankruptcy practitioner with the firm of Butler, Butler & Rowse-Oberle and wife of Joseph Grima, who lost a long battle with cancer on August 21, 2016, at the far too young age of 46. The Helping Hands Fund was designated as the recipient of donations in Brenda's obituary, and the Board voted to make the donation in Brenda's name and memory.

Speaking Event Held on April 26, 2016

Detroit Consumer Bankruptcy Association's speaking event held on April 26, 2016 at the Westin Hotel in Southfield, Michigan was a success. "In The Money Without Being Taken Down By It" featured Chief Judge Phillip J. Shefferly and Mark H. Shapiro who had a conversation with Ryan Broyles and Ron Bellamy, two former Detroit Lions who maximized their financial circumstances to ensure they could hold on to their good fortune. They discussed living within your means, even when your means are generous, as well as taking advantage of secondary choices when your original career plans change.

After the Program, Mark Shapiro sent the following thank you to the panelists: "I know I am sounding like a broken record, but I just had to tell you guys one more time what a fantastic job you did last night. Everyone I talked to, from the Board and members of the Consumer Bankruptcy Association, to my 13 year old daughter and her best friend were fascinated with what you had to say and understood the lessons you'd learned and were sharing with the group. You guys were just awesome. Most importantly of all, I think Ron said at one point that when people meet him, he wanted them to see and treat him as a person first, and a former NFL player second. Not to minimize your careers as athletes, but what you guys did last night made people appreciate your minds and smart decisions far more than your talents as athletes."
